not only did sweet baby andrew make his first trip to asheville but kirk and kristi shaw where in town visiting from Rochester as well! a faculty meeting brought the shaw's to town thursday afternoon & while kristi consorted with her colleagues and peers pete gave kirk the complete tour around town.
friday evening the cummings arrived and real fun began. the kids did lots of snuggling while the adults caught up. nothing like being with friends that feel like family. melanie and i go way back. she was one of the first and best friends i made while in mooresville. as darkness feel the kids went down hard after a long week and we retired to the deck for more conversation and libations.
saturday morning gave way to mountain biking and meandering through the farmers market. we were delighted to share some of the simple local pleasures with everyone.
a mysterious hush fell over the house saturday afternoon. everyone including jeff; who hadn't napped in 6 years, turned in to recharge the battery. as things wrapped up at UNCA saturday evening for kristi the grill was just being fired up. bbq chicken with pete's infamous rub, kale, roasted potatoes and a fresh Caprese salad. and what could be better for desert then SMORES. we stoked up the fire pit and kids had a hey day.
i felt a bit of remorse as the house cleared out just before noon on sunday. melanie and jeff hadn't been gone but 10 minutes when trey declared "i sure miss baby andrew." "i know what you mean buddy" i replied!

Those are some nice lookin' rug rats you got there!! Thats cool that you got to hang out with Kirk and Kristi. What an awesome place to have a conference!
